The Story of You
We all have a story.
Your story is unique to you as mine is to me. Even though the details of our stories are different, we were both brought into the same broken world. Everywhere we look and listen we find messages and voices working to convince us as to who we are, what we’re made of, what we should like and not like, and how we should live. These voices can be confusing and it becomes hard to discern right from wrong – good from evil – truth from lie. It doesn’t take long before we start to question our identities and our place in the world. The struggle continues and we begin to look for answers as we crave for peace inside our souls.
For me, growing up with asthma, allergies, and skin disorders up until I was a teen caused my struggle. The world began to whisper in my ear lies like this: “You are weak. You don’t have what it takes to be successful. You are not loved. You are not accepted.”
The physical pain and discomfort was misery enough, but the reality that I was unable to participate in the same activities as all the other kids my age was what really started the mental and spiritual pain. I couldn’t eat the same food, play the same sports, or participate in the same activities as everyone else for fear of getting sick with little to no notice. Over time, the whispers, looks, and comments began to take their toll. Soon, I began to struggle socially and even academically, which deepened the wounds I was carrying, and I fell deeper into despair and hopelessness.
What about you? What lies have been whispered to you? Do you believe them? How have they shaped the man you are today? What defense mechanisms have you employed to protect yourself from the hordes? What is the truth?
What does your Creator have to say about you?
“For you created my inmost being; you knit me together in my mother’s womb. I praise you because I am fearfully and wonderfully made; your works are wonderful, I know that full well. My frame was not hidden from you when I was made in the secret place. When I was woven together in the depths of the earth, your eyes saw my unformed body.”
